Our Commitment to Community and Sport

Our Story

Founded in 1885, Llanfyllin Town Football Club has been at the heart of our community for well over a century. Known proudly as The Magpies, we first made our mark in the Welsh Cup of 1885–86, defeating Wem White Stars 8–0 before bowing out to Shrewsbury Castle Blues. Just a year later, we reached the quarter-finals, showing early promise that would define our club’s spirit.

Through the decades, Llanfyllin Town FC became a fixture in Montgomeryshire football. Our resilience and passion were rewarded with notable triumphs in the Montgomeryshire Challenge Cup, lifting the trophy in 1910–11, 1911–12, and 1923–24. These victories remain proud milestones, celebrated as part of our heritage and a reminder of the club’s competitive edge.

After the First World War, the club resumed play in the Mid Wales League (North), with a reserve side competing in the Montgomeryshire Amateur League. Success followed again when we clinched the Mid Wales League title in 1947–48, further cementing our reputation as a club that thrives on determination and community support.

Over the years, Llanfyllin Town FC has navigated the challenges of rural football, from league reorganisations to the ups and downs of competition. We’ve competed in the Mid Wales League, later moving into the Central Wales League Northern Division, where we continue to represent our town with pride.

Today, our vision is clear: to build a club that champions inclusivity, youth development, and community pride. From grassroots players to senior squads, we are committed to nurturing talent, strengthening partnerships, and reflecting the spirit of Llanfyllin in everything we do.

Our story is not just about past victories — it’s about the future we are building together. With dedicated volunteers, passionate supporters, and a new generation of players, Llanfyllin Town FC continues to grow as a club that belongs to everyone.
